 The Feed-In Tariffs were introduced through and protected by the Energy Act.

The government is legally obliged to hit the EU’s 15% renewable energy Commitment by 2020 and the tariffs are an important means for achieving that. Once your system is installed and registered, you will lock into the Feed-In Tariff of 43.3p per unit. Each year the tariffs will increase by the Retail Price Index. You are guaranteed your investment will increase by the rate of inflation for the next 25 years.

The Government has proposed that from April 2010, anyone who is generating renewable energy (under 5MW)
should be paid for every kW they generate, including the units they use themselves.
Feed-in Tariff (FiT)  The proposed rate for Solar PV is as follows:

The Feed-in Tariff Generates An Income In Three Ways:

EXAMPLE:
Mr Smith wants a 4kW system installed on his south facing roof in Lincoln. The cost of installation for the full kit will be around £12,000 +VAT
A 4kW system in Lincoln will produce approximately 3434 kWh per year, therefore Mr. Smith  will earn around:

£1,486 for the the total amount of electricity that the PV system generates, regardless of whether you use it or not (43.3p x 3434kW).

+ £206 in savings made through not having to buy electricity. This assumes that electricity is bought from the grid at 12p per kW.
As energy costs rise, this saving will become even greater. (12p x 3434kW).+ Export (50%)  £51 (0.03p unit not used)
Total Benefit for the year £1744.00

So Mr Smith could have a payback over 25 years of £63,530 that's a profit of £50,000 and it is all TAX FREE

The performance of Microgeneration Solar PV systems is impossible to predict with any certainty due to the variability in the amount of solar radiation (sunlight) from location to location and year to year. This estimate is based upon the governments standard assessment procedure for the energy rating of buildings. (SAP) and is given as guidance only. It should not be used as a guarantee of performance.

Cut your energy costs

Once you’ve paid for the initial installation your energy costs will be significantly less. A solar PV system will typically produce about 40% of the electricity a household uses a year.

Reduce your Carbon Footprint

Solar electricity is a clean, renewable energy that doesn’t release harmful carbon dioxide (CO²). A typical domestic solar PV system can reduce your CO² output by around 1200kg per year – that’s equivalent to 5 return flights from London to Paris, every year.

DOMESTIC
A solar photovoltaic system can be mounted onto most types of domestic property to help power your home and reduce your use of carbon based fuels.

A south facing roof can have panels mounted onto the roof to maximise the energy capture or panels can be mounted in your garden using mounting structures that enable the panels to be angled and orientated in the most optimal direction.
In a new build or renovation application the roof material itself can comprise of solar tiles offering the best possible appearance.

INCOME TAX EXEMPT

The government has stated that the Feed-In Tariffs will be exempt from income tax for domestic users. Companies will be subject to Corporation Tax on their tariff income depending on their profits.
